The South Shore's First Healthy Market

Be on the lookout for the Healthy Market Options symbol at The Market! You’ll find it on some of your favorite entrees prepared by Chef Dane, and on shelf tags throughout the grocery aisles. Foods need to earn this symbol and when you see it – the healthy choice will be the easy choice! Foods designated as a “Healthy Market Option” must meet the following nutrient criteria:

Juice: Must be 100% fresh squeezed or from concentrate with no sugar, artificial sweeteners, or sugar alcohols added. It will never be a juice drink, cocktail, sports drink, or tea.

Cold Cereal: Must be made with 100% whole wheat/grain and have at least 3 grams of naturally occurring fiber. Sugar cannot be more than 25% of the total calories, although if it has dried fruit in it, it may be a “smidge” over the 25%. Fat content must be less than 30% of total calories and there cannot be any saturated fat.

Bread: Must be made with 100% whole wheat/grain and have at least 4 grams of naturally occurring fiber in 2 slices; no more than 401 mg. sodium per 2 slices; and less than 1 gram saturated fat per 2 slices.

Crackers: First ingredient is whole wheat/grain; less than 140 mg. of sodium per serving; no saturated fat; and does not exceed 30% of calories from fat; is about 100 calories per serving.

Entrees: Will not exceed 700 calories, 10% of calories from saturated fat; 30% of total calories from fat; 700 mg. sodium; 105 mg. cholesterol; .5 g. trans fat; and has 10% or more of one of the following nutrients: Vitamin A, C, Iron, or fiber per serving.
